Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxins, coming from the environment, foods and other lifestyle habits. These toxins often contribute to weight being gained as well as retained. Performing a cleanse to help flush these toxins from the body can greatly speed up weight loss and leave your body feeling healthy and refreshed. Simple and natural ways are available to cleanse your body, which should be followed up by adjustments to your lifestyle. A proper cleanse begins by detoxifying your internal organs. This includes your colon, liver and blood. It is recommended that you begin with a colon cleansing to prevent toxins from being recycled back into your system. As always, talk with your doctor before beginning any cleansing program.

Begin By Cleansing The Colon

A colon cleanse commonly begins by taking an herbal supplement, such as bentonite, flaxseed or psyllium to help loosen the toxins lining the colon walls. After loosening and removing the toxins in the colon, it is helpful to follow up with probiotics to replenish the beneficial bacteria in the colon that are necessary for healthy functioning. Probiotics can be found in supplement form, as well as in many yogurts, milks, miso and some juices and soy drinks.

Cleansing the Blood

Detoxing the blood is often done through a kidney cleanse, since the kidney filters blood before returning it to the rest of the body. This can be as simple as eating more healthy foods and drinking more water. Juice fasts are another healthful and popular form of kidney cleansing. Herbal teas and supplements have also been found to be effective. A doctor should be consulted before beginning any form of cleanse.

Cleansing the Liver

The liver is cleansed through herbal supplements such as milk thistle, vitamin C, the B vitamins, selenium, vitamin E or beta carotene. A doctor can determine what form of liver detox is safe.

Healthy Eating Habits

Drinking plenty of water and juice is most effective when attempting a cleanse. The most obvious is their helpfulness in carrying away unwanted toxins (that were mobilized during the fasting process) from the system and removing them. Water and juice are also important in preventing dehydration. Many juices contain sugars that can assist in speeding up bowel movements. Juices can also be a good natural source of vitamins and minerals that a body needs to stay healthy and keep its energy during the cleansing process.
Since processed and cooked foods tend to create or add to the toxins in the colon, a cleanse consisting of mostly organic, raw fruits and vegetables is your best bet. Raw fruits and vegetables are high in fiber, which is nature's ingredient for removing unwanted toxins. Fruits and vegetables also contain the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes necessary for a healthy body, which will help avoid weakness often associated with a cleansing. Eating organic fruits and vegetables prevents new toxins from being introduced into the body.

Lifestyle Habits

Certain habits that can be adopted or continued to make a cleanse more effective. Sweating the toxins from your body can help, such as through a sauna or exercise. Exercise also speeds blood flow, which can assist in the cleansing process. Be sure that you are getting enough sleep (recommended seven to nine hours each night) and make sure your body is getting enough relaxation time. Fresh air and sunshine are also beneficial.
