Installing a permanently fixed pull-up bar is a relatively easy job that requires a few tools and a little preparation and planning. You should setup the pull-up bar using the included mounting brackets, installed securely to any permanent building material, such as wall studs, floor joists, doorways or concrete/metal structures. It's very important to drill the holes correctly when first installing the mounting bracket system for whatever model you've chosen, because that is the point which will have to support your body weight to safely use the pull-up bar. Drilled and installed correctly, the pull-up bar brackets will provide years of consistent, secure performance.
Step 1
Choose and purchase your desired pull-up bar model. There are a variety of permanently mounted models you can install in a doorway, on the ceiling, the wall or in a corner. Your pull-up bar will come with the necessary hardware to mount the bar, including screws/bolts and mounting brackets.
Step 2
Measure the width of your pull-up bar and find the approximate placement you wish to mount it on the wall, ceiling, doorway or corner of the room.
Step 3
Find any available studs/floor joists in the area you wish to mount the pull-up bar, using the stud finder. Use a pencil to make a preliminary mark on each edge of the stud/floor joist. It's critical that you mount the brackets in the center of a stud/floor joist for the pull-up bar to safely hold your weight.
Step 4
Place each mounting bracket flat on the wall/doorway/ceiling one at a time, and line it up in the exact location you wish to mount it. Hold it in place, making sure it is level and located in the center of the stud/floor joist, and use the pencil to mark where the screw/bolt holes are located. Then remove the mounting brackets to reveal the pencil marks.
Step 5
Drill a pilot hole through each of the pencil marks from Step 4. The width of the drill bit for the pilot holes should be smaller than the width of the mounting screws/bolts to ensure a tight fit. If you are drilling into concrete, use a masonry bit.
Step 6
Line up the mounting brackets with the newly drilled holes, and insert the mounting screws or bolts. Tighten the screws/bolts and install the bar.
Tips and Warnings
- Drilling pilot holes will help reduce the chances of the wood stud/floor joist cracking and causing the pull-up bar to fail.
- Never mount a pull-up bar in drywall without the support of studs, floor joists or rafters, because it will not provide adequate weight support for the exercise.
