A new weight loss breakthrough is a scientifically proven protocol for losing weight that was previously untested or unknown. This differs from new fad diets and weight loss pills which claim to produce rapid weight loss, recommend limited menus and promise to burn fat without exercising. You can benefit from some new weight loss breakthroughs right away like drinking water before meals. Other new weight loss breakthroughs need more research and development before they reach the consumer market.
Gut Bacteria
The bacteria in your intestines may play a more important role in weight loss than previously thought according to research from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and published online in January 2011 on the Federation of the American Societies for Experimental Biology's website. This discovery opens a new breakthrough in weight loss solutions. Future weight loss drugs and protocols could focus on managing the bacteria in your intestines.
Water
Increase you water consumption as an effective weight loss strategy recommends a study conducted by The Institute for Public Health and Water Research and presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in August 2010. The study involved 48 adults who ate the same low calorie diet and either drank 2 c. of water before meals or did not. After 12 weeks the water drinkers lost about 15.5 lbs. and the control group lost 11 lbs. Researchers do not know exactly why water consumed in this manner facilitates weight loss.
Knee Osteoarthritis
Retired professional athletes and obese individuals suffering from knee pain due to osteoarthritis can find relief with weight loss. By simply losing weight, the 24 participants with knee pain due to osteoarthritis in a study conducted by Penn State College of Medicine and reported at the February 2011 American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine's Specialty Day program improved their quality of life, ability to complete everyday tasks and fitness level. Every participant in the study who lost weight experienced some type of pain improvement.
Fish Oil
Researchers from the University of Alberta in Canada found that fish oil supplements may prevent weight loss and muscle wasting that commonly occurs in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The results, published in a 2011 issue of "Cancer," show that the sixteen chemotherapy patients involved in the study took 2.2 g of fish oil per day for 10 weeks and maintained their weight, while a control group of 24 patients did not take fish oil and lost an average 5.06 lbs.
