True Fitness is a maker of both residential and commercial exercise equipment, and the company claims a legacy of excellence in the fitness industry since 1981. The True 450 Series treadmill is a home model at the lower-end of True treadmills in terms of price. The treadmill has an incline range between zero and 15 percent grade, which you can increase in 0.5 percent increments.
Troubleshooting
Before you can repair your incline issue on the True 450 Series, you need to find out the source of the problem. While the treadmill is plugged in, turn the power switch to the on position and start a running program while you stand to the side of the running deck. If the treadmill belt turns but the incline does not work, there is a problem in the wiring of the incline motor or it is burned out. If neither component moves, the grounding of the equipment is not connected properly.
Error Messages
You may also receive an error message on the electronic display console of the True 450 Series when a problem occurs with the incline motor. If the display reads "E1:INCLINE," it means that the electronics are malfunctioning and the incline will move on its own. Conversely, "E1:STALL" on the display means that the incline will not move when commanded. If the electronic display says "E1:MINIMUM" or "E1:RANGE," the incline needs to be recalibrated to work properly.
Repairs
Remove the plastic coverings on the back of the True 450 Series electronic console and at the base of the treadmill frame where the incline motor resides. Look for loose connections in the wire harnesses that you can correct by pushing the harnesses together. If the problem is within the wires, motor or is not otherwise easily reparable, you will need to contact True Fitness service personnel and set up a repair appointment.
Prevention
Problems with the incline function on the True 450 Series treadmill are more likely to occur if you do not engage in regular maintenance of the equipment. True Fitness advises that you wipe down the entire treadmill once a week with a damp washcloth. Be careful not to get water into the electrical or mechanical parts of the machine. Once a month, it is necessary to fully clean out all of the crevices of the machine and blow dust out of the motors.
