Workout videos and DVDs are an excellent way to break a sweat in the comfort of your own home, and many videos on the market focus specifically on slimming the thighs. When looking to trim down any part of the body, your program should have a warmup, cardiovascular work, strength training and a cool down. These videos contain those critical components and focus on the thighs.

Pilates

Pilates is a method of exercise that focuses on strengthening and lengthening the muscles with small, controlled movements. In its January/February 2011 issue, "Pilates Style" magazine named Michele Olsen's "Perfect Legs, Glutes and Abs" the best targeted toning video of the year. Olsen is a professor of exercise science at Auburn University and uses the latest research to give you a workout focused on trimming your thighs and midsection in just less than an hour.

Low Impact

Leslie Sansone has been making low impact exercise videos since 1987. Her 2008 offering, "Walk Away Your Hips and Thighs," features her signature high-energy, positive persona leading you through a walking program. The twist here, though, is that the DVD includes the Fit Cuff, a resistance tube with ankle straps, to add an extra burn to the muscles of your thighs. There is also a floor work segment to further target the hips and thighs.

Boot Camp

A typical boot camp workout consists of short cardio intervals and strength training exercises done with nothing but your own body weight. "Crunch Belly, Butt & Thigh Boot Camp" fits that bill with exercises that are challenging, but safe with motivating instruction. This workout clocks in at just over 30 minutes, including a warmup, standing exercises, floor exercises and stretching. This video is designed for beginners but can be made more advanced by adding additional resistance from free weights or a resistance band.

Advanced

"Cathe's Cross Train Xpress" is an advanced workout DVD series. The second DVD in the series is "Leaner Legs," an intense 45 minutes of squats, lunges and other standing leg work. You'll transition quickly from exercises to keep your heart rate elevated to burn calories and alternate between using heavy resistance from dumbbells and barbells, to using your own body weight for resistance as well as stretching.
