After you see the sagging skin on bellies of people who rapidly lost a bunch of weight, you may feel less motivated to lose pounds. It seems that you'd be trading one cosmetic issue for another. Some good news is that you don't have to worry about having the unwanted leftovers if you treat your skin well while you're still losing weight. Human skin is so elastic that, given time, it should be able to acclimate to your new size.
Step 1
Lose weight slowly. It's impressive when a person is able to ditch 100 lbs. within a few months, but skin isn't able to bounce back that quickly. Moreover, losing weight that quickly isn't healthy because it often involves self-starvation and overexertion. To stay safe and keep your skin on the same page as your weight loss, try not to lose more than a pound a week. A pound is equal to 3,500 calories, so you can safely ditch about 500 calories a day with no worries.
Step 2
Eat a skin-healthy diet. This should be easy for you as you are probably already planning to revamp your diet to lose weight. Many weight loss-friendly foods happen to contain skin-improving nutrients. The vitamin C in carrots, antioxidants in prunes and blueberries, and omega-3 fatty acids in flaxseeds and salmon will all help you keep your skin young and elastic.
Step 3
Do resistance training with your cardio to build muscle under your skin. Having more lean muscle will help you lose weight and offer your body a little under-skin bulk to replace some of the fat. Especially focus on doing exercises like as planks, and participate in yoga or Pilates in order to strengthen your stabilizing core muscles (these include your abs).
Step 4
Do a daily self skin care treatment. Exfoliate your skin with a loofah when you are in the shower to slough off dead skin cells and help the new, young skin regenerate more quickly. After your shower, generously massage into your skin a daily dose of moisturizer. You may notice improved skin tone if you use one that contains a skin elasticity-improving agent such as coenzyme q10. When you massage your skin, use kneading and stroking motions to enhance flow of lymph and blood.
Step 5
Stay hydrated. Since the majority of your body is comprised of water, it's a no-brainer that you should consistently replace the water you lose through sweat and urine. Water helps plump up your skin cells to keep your skin looking young and adaptable. Drink about eight glasses of water every day to avoid dehydration.
