If you are looking to lose some belly fat, consider adding tea to your diet. According to a study that was published in the December 2008 "Journal of Nutrition" and conducted by researchers at Tufts University, green tea consumption aids in abdominal fat loss in obese and overweight adults. Along with diet and exercise, you can use green tea to reach your weight loss goals.
Step 1
Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea per day. Different varieties of green tea have various amounts of catechins in them. Participants in the study consumed 625mg of catechins daily, which can be found in roughly 2 to 3 cups of green tea.
Step 2
Consume the tea before mealtimes. Plan to consume the drink 20 to 30 minutes before you eat. The tea can make you feel fuller before meals and make you consume less food.
Step 3
Participate in moderate exercise on a daily basis. Get at least 30 minutes of moderate cardio exercise each day while drinking tea to lose belly fat. The study at Tufts University showed that green tea helped exercise-induced abdominal fat loss. Some types of exercise you can participate in are jogging, cycling, swimming or kickboxing.
Step 4
Eat a low calorie diet. To lose even more belly fat while drinking tea, reduce the amount of calories that you eat on a daily basis. Eating 500 fewer calories a day can help you lose 2 to 3 lbs. per week.
Tips and Warnings
- If you don't like the taste of green tea, you can use a supplement form of the beverage. The supplement will list the amount of catechins found in each capsule. Many green tea varieties will contain a significant amount of caffeine. If you are caffeine sensitive, consume decaffeinated versions.
- Speak to your doctor before embarking on a new diet or exercise program.
