Edema is a condition that occurs when extra fluid gets caught in the cells of your body. Common areas that can be affected by this condition include the arms, leg, feet and face. Since a slimmer face can help you look much thinner, add more exercise to your routine to get rid of facial bloating. Consult your doctor if you suspect a medical condition is causing the bloating.
Cardio Exercise
Moving your body can help pump any excess fluid that has settled in your face back to your heart. Focus on exercises that move the muscles in your head and upper body during the workout. Cardio workouts include such activities as boxing, tennis and basketball. When you exercise, drink plenty of water and work out in a climate-controlled environment to avoid worsening the water retention.
Strength Training
Strength training routines help you build muscle in all areas of your body, including your face. Regular sessions with weights can get rid of bloating while tightening and toning your facial muscles. Work out with weights at least three days a week for at least 30 minutes. Use resistance machines, such as shoulder presses, biceps curls and pullup bars, as part of your routine.
Facial Yoga
Facial yoga tightens and tones the muscles in the face. Moves like Free Your Tongue can flush out toxins, according to "Time" magazine. To do Free Your Tongue, open your mouth wide. Stick out your tongue as far as possible. Your eyes should water as you hold the move for at least 60 seconds before releasing. Other facial yoga poses include Lion's Face and Temple Dancer Eyes.
Diet
In addition to exercise, you should make dietary changes to get rid of facial bloating. Since salty foods cause you to retain water, limit the amount of sodium in your meals. Foods high in sodium include canned goods, processed meals, table salt and fast food. Also, drink plenty of water throughout the day to reduce the sodium levels found in your blood.
