The thigh and stomach areas are the most often susceptible to weight gain. And excess belly fat can put you at a higher risk for serious diseases like diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Lucky for you, there is a way to lose weight in your thighs and stomach. Though spot reduction isn't possible, any weight-loss efforts you take on will eliminate fat from your whole body, including your belly and thighs.
Aerobic Activity
One of the best ways to lose weight from your thighs and stomach -- and from the rest of your body -- is to perform aerobic activity regularly. That is, do any activity that elevates your heart rate and makes you sweat. You need at least 30 minutes of cardio five times a week to stay in shape and even more to lose weight. Participate in an activity like jogging, running, biking or swimming for 60 minutes per session to shed fat.
Weightlifting
Weightlifting doesn't burn very many calories and help you lose fat directly, but it does help you build muscle. Building muscle speeds up your metabolism and encourages your body to burn more fat even when you're at rest. Stick to a moderate weightlifting regimen that includes exercises that work your major muscles, such as bicep curls, tricep dips, rows, leg lifts and weighted squats.
Tone
Toning your thighs and stomach is another essential component to losing weight. Toning exercises don't burn calories or fat, but they do tighten your muscles so that once the fat comes off, you'll be in good shape and ready to show off your slimmer physique. Thigh toning exercises include lunges, squats, leg circles and leg raises. Abdominal toning exercises include crunches, reverse crunches, leg lifts and bicycle crunches.
Adjust Your Diet
Losing weight from all over your body, including off your thighs and stomach, requires serious changes to your diet. Aim to lose no more than 1 to 2 lbs. per week, and don't eat fewer than 1,500 calories a day. In your diet, include nutritious foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, non-fat dairy and lean protein, and drink plenty of water. This ensures you stay nourished and healthy but create enough of a caloric deficit through diet and exercise to lose weight and see your belly and thighs shrink.
