How to Tighten Loose Skin After Weight Loss

Due to the decreased elasticity of the skin, your skin may sag after you have lost a significant amount of weight. If you have lost the weight quickly, you are more likely to experience this issue with sagging skin. This is one of the reasons that gradual weight loss of 1-to-2 pounds per week is recommended. Speak to your doctor about prevention methods for sagging skin as a result of weight loss.

Step 1

Drink a lot of water. Water can help the skin's elasticity and tighten the area during and after you have lost the weight. Aim to drink 8-to-10 glasses on a daily basis. Hydration can also be achieved by eating foods with high water content, like celery, cucumbers, watermelon, apples and lettuce.

Step 2

Keep your diet low in fat. Maintaining a low-fat diet that incorporates lean proteins can help you tone the body after you have lost the weight. Avoid foods high in saturated fat, like fast food, fried foods, chips and sweets. Your protein intake should come from healthy sources like skinless chicken, turkey breast, fish, beans, soy and egg whites.

Step 3

Build up muscle by using resistance training machines. Weights can help you build up muscle and thicken the layers underneath the skin. Instead of trying to use a higher weight on these machines, start with a low weight and try to perform a higher number of reps per set.

Step 4

Use a moisturizing lotion to improve the elasticity of the skin. You don't need to spend a lot of money on the lotion; any water-based type will work.

Step 5

Make an appointment with a plastic surgeon. If you are unable to tighten up the skin on your own, a plastic surgeon may be able to help. These specialists can perform body-contouring surgeries to tighten the loose skin.
