A fat butt is a characteristic often associated with women. This is because they have a greater tendency than men to store fat in the lower body. In actuality, men can gain weight in the posterior just like women. The way to melt it off involves changes to your eating and exercising habits. This means you have to make sacrifices and become more accustomed to movement.

Calorie Cutting

Excess weight cannot be lost in one area of the body. This is the false notion known as spot reduction, according to the American Council on Exercise. For you to lose butt fat, you must create a caloric deficit and lose weight throughout your body as a whole. A daily reduction of 500 to 1,000 calories will promote a 1- to 2-lb. weight loss each week. To find your starting intake, track your calories for one day.

Increased Meal Frequency

Increasing the frequency of your meals helps you lose butt fat in two ways. First of all, it will keep your appetite under control. Second, you will experience an elevated metabolism. The objective is to prevent yourself from becoming ravenous. This is done by eating fix or six small meals or eating three reasonably sized meals and snacks between. Use a plan that works well for you. With all of your meals, choose foods that are high in nutrient value, like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish and low-fat dairy products. Start your day with a meal and eat every two to three hours thereafter.

Alcohol Reduction

Alcohol in small amounts brings benefits to the body. Unfortunately, this all changes when you drink it in excess. High amounts of alcohol lead to a high intake of liquid calories. This goes for all beverages that contain calories, such as sweetened teas, dessert coffees, slushies and fruit drinks. Give up these drinks in favor of water, diet soda and unsweetened tea. Water is especially significant because it helps hydrate the body and it flushes the system of impurities.

Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic, or cardiovascular, exercise increases the heart rate and causes you to burn calories. Any form of cardio achieves this goal as long as you work out long enough and hard enough. The American College of Sports Medicine notes that it can take 60 to 90 minutes of activity performed five days a week to promote weight loss. Choose a form that you enjoy, and work out at a moderate to high intensity. Running, cycling, stair climbing, rowing and elliptical training are efficient. All of these forms also cause you to work your glutes.

Glute-building Exercises

Glute exercises will improve the definition in your butt and also contribute to a faster metabolism. This is the case any time you add muscle to your body. Focus on doing compound exercises, which work more than one muscle at a time. Squats, lunges, stepups, leg presses and deadlifts, for example, all work the butt, quadriceps and hamstrings simultaneously. Aim for two or three workouts a week, and do them on nonconsecutive days.
