Belly fat in girls can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor diet, poor posture and lack of abdominal muscle definition. You can lose weight from your midsection, but you must remember that spot reduction is not possible. Losing belly fat requires a change in diet and an exercise regimen to lose weight all over your body, not just on your tummy.

Step 1

Get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes every day. Any kind of aerobic exercise will work including jogging, riding a bike, swimming and kickboxing. An elevated heart rate will burn calories. Repetitive movements will tone and strengthen your body, providing strength to your belly muscles.

Step 2

Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water a day to stay hydrated and allow your body to get rid of excess water. When you are dehydrated, your body actually stores water, leaving you bloated in your belly.

Step 3

Stand and sit up straight to improve your posture. Tightening your abdominal muscles and pulling your shoulders back can make your stomach look smaller and less fat.

Step 4

Use a stability ball to improve your posture and abdominal strength. Any exercise you do on this ball will firm up your lower back and stomach, reducing the look of a belly bulge and helping to burn a few additional calories as well.

Step 5

Improve the strength of your entire body through weightlifting, yoga, Pilates or a similar full-body exercise. Doing this speeds up your metabolism and helps you burn more calories each day, resulting in further weight loss.
