If you want a workout that is inexpensive, easy to follow and will show you results, get walking. According to "Fitness Magazine," you can lose 10 lbs. in one month from walking. This means that you can meet your goal of losing 20 lbs. in just two months. If you can set aside 30 to 60 minutes almost everyday to get fit, this workout is for you. Get up and get moving.
Step 1
Attach your pedometer and start tracking how many steps you take each day. Take 10,000 steps per day to get enormous health benefits including weight loss, lower blood pressure and reduced risk for heart disease. The equivalent of 4.5 to 5 miles or an hour of fast paced walking is recommended. If you take this 10,000 steps per day, you can lose 1 lb. every 10 days.
Step 2
Keep a fast pace to burn more calories. When you are walking to work out, you want to go as fast as you can while still being able to speak in sentences.
Step 3
Tone your legs by choosing a path that has a lot of hills. If you want to burn even more calories, jog up the hill or walk at your fastest pace and recover as you come down the hill.
Step 4
Add more steps into your day by marching in place while you watch television. March around your house as you talk on the phone and clean the house. Your steps will add up quickly and you will not feel like you are working out.
Step 5
Integrate weight training into your walking for the best results. If you want to lose weight quickly, you should commit to lifting weights or using a resistance band to complete a strength training routine at least once a week. Add 10 pull-ups, 20 push-ups and 30 lunges.
Tips and Warnings
- If you do not have an hour in your day to walk 4.5 to 5miles, split it up into easy segments. Take your dog for a walk in the morning for 20 minutes, walk during your lunch break for 20 minutes and walk with a friend or your spouse after work for 20 minutes. If you want to lose 10 lbs. in one month from walking, you have to include some weight training with a resistance band or simple hand weights.
