Motivation comes in various forms. No matter what kind of support you need to get moving, take advantage of available options to get on track with your fitness plan. Find exercise groups that will hold you accountable. On the days when you don't have the inner motivation to stick to your fitness regimen, your friends and supporters can step in and provide the encouragement to get you through the moment.

Sports

Sports provide an effective means of support. A team counts on your participation, which can motivate you to be there for practice and competition. Exercise is a positive side effect of the camaraderie you get playing sports. You're much more likely to stick with an exercise that is fun when performed with people you enjoy. Find a local pickup basketball game to play in, or join a tennis or volleyball team in your area. Volunteer with a local youth program if you are not skilled at a sport. The exercise you'll get running around after the kids will keep you in shape.

Mall Walkers

You're not alone in your desire to be fit. Many of your friends and neighbors can benefit from joining you in regular fitness activities. Mall walkers have become a common sight in cities and town across the country. Hospitals or health care facilities, senior centers and community recreation departments organize many mall-walking groups. Check with your local mall's business office to find out if it has mall walkers, because many malls encourage groups of walkers to enjoy their facilities.

Classes

Support group exercises provide training in how to perform new and innovative movements; they put you in touch with trainers and fitness experts who can guide your progress; and they provide various levels of exercise depending on your fitness level. Group fitness exercises have evolved to include a wide range of different formats, from Pilates to boot camps and from dance to strength training, cycling and stability ball workouts. Classes are widely available through fitness centers, community organizations and health centers.

Savings

The cost of a personal trainer, while probably worthwhile, can be overwhelming. According to the American Council on Exercise, more and more adults are turning to support groups to receive their training in an effort to save money. In addition to getting the professional guidance of a trained fitness expert, they find that the motivation from other group members adds to the effectiveness of the regular workouts. Health clubs serve cost-conscious fitness enthusiasts with groups and classes aimed at like-minded students.
