Carbohydrates are converted to glycogen in your body and used for energy when they are consumed. Any carbohydrates that are not used right away are stored in the muscles and liver for later use. If you severely restrict carbohydrates in your diet, your body will go into a state of "ketosis"--burning stored fat for energy. A carb-free food list can be beneficial if you are following this type of diet.
Meat
Beef and pork are two types of meat with zero carbohydrates. They are also high in fat and protein. Ground beef, eye of round, beef roast, sirloin, ham, pork chops, bacon and pork loins are all examples of meat with zero carbs.
Poultry
Chicken and turkey are two types of poultry that are high in protein and some variations are free of carbs. Turkey breast, roast turkey, canned chicken and chicken livers are all carb-free.
Fish
Fish is high in protein and B vitamins and some types have no carbohydrates. Sole, flounder, salmon, tuna, crab, shrimp, sardines and trout are all examples. Prepared with breading, these fish are no longer carb-free.
Oils
Oils are used for cooking and salad dressings. They are high in unsaturated fats, which are good for you, and they are also free of carbs. Olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil and cottonseed oil are all carb-free.
Eggs
Eggs are high in protein, cholesterol, choline, amino acids, B vitamins and also free of carbohydrates.
Dairy
Salted and unsalted butter, and heavy whipping cream are the only dairy products that are carb-free.
Beverages
Water, diet soda, unsweetened tea, black coffee and espresso are beverages that are free of carbs. Vodka, whiskey, rum and gin are all carb-free alcoholic drinks.
Vegetables
Vegetables are high in water, fiber, vitamins and nutrients. Parsley and lettuce are both carb-free.
