How to Lose 20 Pounds in Two Months

To lose 20 lbs. in two months, you must really want it and be willing to work at it. Reaching this goal will take healthy eating, exercise and a systematic overhaul. Your weight really depends on many decisions you make on a daily basis. If you hit the snooze button every morning instead of hopping out of bed to squeeze in a workout or forget to eat lunch and eat a huge meal when you get home at 7 p.m., it matters when you want to lose weight. You need to burn more calories than you consume. That is the best way to lose weight.

Step 1

Record what you eat after every meal with how many calories the meal was. Try to eat between 1,500 and 1,600 calories each day. Split this up into three meals and one snack. Stay within this number.

Step 2

Make smart choices when you eat out. Try to stick to restaurants that list the nutritional information. Many dishes can be misleading. For example, you could order grilled chicken and vegetables thinking that you are making a good decision. However, if the chicken is smothered in cheese and the vegetables were sautéed in butter, then you might as well have eaten a burger. If you are unsure about what to order, order a large salad with a vinaigrette dressing and without the cheese and croutons.

Step 3

Buy a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps each day. This is equivalent to 4.5 to 5 miles. Do this by walking at a fast pace for an hour. If you cannot find one hour in your day to walk, break it down into smaller increments. Take your dog for a 15-minute walk in the morning, take two 15-minute walk breaks during your day and take a brisk 15-minute walk after dinner.

Step 4

Add jogging into your workout routine after a few weeks of making it to 10,000 steps a day. Running is one of the best ways to lose weight; you get your heart rate up and work multiple muscle groups.

Step 5

Lift weights at least two times per week for 30 to 45 minutes. You can use workout DVDs, get hand weights and download exercises off the Internet or lift weights at your gym. When you lift weights, your body continues to burn fat for hours. That will help you to lose those 20 lbs. in two months.
