Meat and Eggs
Meat, including red meat and poultry, and eggs also contribute rich amounts of phosphorus. One large, cooked egg provides 104 g, 3 ounces of cooked beef provide 173 g and 3 ounces of cooked chicken provide 155 g. As valuable sources of protein, meat and eggs also promote immune system strength, which is important since low phosphorus levels can increase your risk for infection. Protein-rich foods also promote tissue repair and physical strength.
Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds provide unsaturated fats, which promote brain function, cardiovascular health and nutrient absorption. Almonds contain 135 g of phosphorus per ounce. Almonds also contain calcium. Other phosphorus-rich nut and seed varieties include peanuts, cashews, pistachios, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and flaxseed. Nut butters, such as peanut and almond butter, also supply valuable amounts. Since nuts and seeds are dense in calories, they provide a useful way of increasing your caloric intake if your appetite or weight is reduced.
Whole Grains
Grains provide glucose -- your body's main dietary source of energy. Whole grains contain all nutritious parts of the grain.
