Klonopin Side Effects

Klonopin, generically known as clonazepam, is a medication used to treat seizures (convulsions) and panic attacks (condition of extreme fear and anxiety). It works to balance the brain chemicals that provoke anxiousness. Because of its potentially harmful side effects, Klonopin should only be taken up to nine weeks, according to Drugs.com.

Serious Side Effects

Klonopin can cause serious side effects that necessitate immediate medical help. Drugs.com states these serious side effects can include worsening seizures, shallow breathing, hyperactivity and uncontrollable eye movements. You may also experience unusual thoughts, hyperactivity, tachycardia (fast heartbeats) and suicidal thoughts.

Mild Side Effects

Medline Plus states that Klonopin can lead to mild side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, increased salivation, muscle pain, blurred vision and decreased libido (sex drive). Lack of coordination, joint pain and frequent urination are other mild side effects of Klonopin. Weight changes, bleeding, easy bruising, diarrhea and memory problems are also side effects of Klonopin, according to Drugs.com.

Allergic Reaction

In some instances, you may develop an allergic reaction to Klonopin. According to Drugs.com, symptoms of an allergic reaction to side effects include difficulty breathing, hives and swelling of the tongue, face and lips.
