The fats in dark chocolate are mainly stearic acid and oleic acid. Oleic acid is a type of monounsaturated fat and does not raise your blood cholesterol. This benefit might be only in dark chocolate because it does not contain hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils that are related to unhealthy levels of cholesterol.

Chocolate contains flavonoids, substances that help you fight free radicals. Free radicals are bacterial and viral agents that cause cellular damage, infection and illness in your body. UHMS suggests that you choose chocolate that is darker because this indicates a higher content of antioxidants; therefore, the darker the chocolate, the higher the content of antioxidants.

Chocolate does contain a high number of both fat and calories, which can lead to weight gain if eaten in large quantities. However, chocolate can be part of a healthy diet when eaten in moderation. A healthy intake of chocolate can be up to 7 oz. per week, or 1 oz. per day, according to UHMS.
Mood Regulation
UMHS says that dark chocolate might help boost your mood. Dark chocolate can increase the amount of mood-regulating chemicals, serotonin and endorphin, in your brain. Therefore, dark chocolate might be helpful to protect against sadness, depression and a lack of motivation.
