The Rules of the Smart for Life Cookie Diet

The Smart for Life Cookie Diet is a weight loss program that claims you can lose 3 to 4 lbs. per week. Program options include the Smart for Life Medical Program, for individuals with more than 20 lbs. to lose, and the Lifestyle Program. As with all diets, you should talk to your doctor before starting this weight loss program.

Eat Cookies

Each day on your Smart for Life Diet, you eat up to six Smart for Life diet cookies. Eat your first cookie within one hour after you wake up, with some water, and eat the rest of your cookies every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day. Each cookie has about 100 calories, 1.5 to 3.5 g of fat, 9 to 15 g of carbohydrates and 6 g of protein. The cookies contain omega-3 fatty acids, and they come in chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and blueberry.

Include Some Variety

Smart for Life recognizes the importance of variety in helping you stick to your diet program. Instead of a cookie, you can substitute a Smart for Life muffin, bagel, granola square, soup or pudding. These products have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein as the diet cookies. Oatmeal or cereal count for two cookies. Smart for Life encourages you to vary your dinner by trying its recipes such as sushi tuna hand roll, chicken artichoke casserole or haddock with peppers.

Eat Other Foods

Your low-fat dinner should include chicken or fish and 5 cups of vegetables. You can have a frozen dinner if it has 600 to 800 mg sodium, at least 30 g protein and no more than 60 g carbohydrate 500 calories and 10 g fat. After dinner, you may have sugar-free gelatin, raw celery, a dill pickle and a sugar-free popsicle or a frozen Under-way drink with 10 calories and 0.5 g fiber per serving.

Follow Safety Precautions

A rule of the Smart for Life Cookie Diet is to work with program doctors. Your initial doctor visit includes a physical, medical history consultation and electrocardiogram. Throughout the program, you continue to work with the support team over the phone or in person, and attend telephone conferences for further support. Take the recommend vitamin supplements to reduce your risk for deficiencies, since the Medical Weight Loss program only provides 800 calories and the Lifestyle program is a 1,200-calorie diet.
