Utilizing a wobble board will help you gain leg and core strength. You'll also improve your coordination and balance. People who surf, snowboard and enjoy other board sports often are familiar with this fitness tool. Athletes who train for other sports, including swimming, running, football and golf, also benefit from workouts involving a wobble board. Physical therapists utilize wobble boards to speed patients' recovery. A wobble board can be costly-but it's easy to make one home for a fraction of the price.
Step 1
Buy some medium density fiberboard, or MDF. Purchase a wood ball that is 8 cm in diameter and some screws. Gather the following tools: a drill, a jig saw or hand saw, screwdriver and sandpaper.
Step 2
Make a template for your board. This should be circular and 60 cm in diameter. Make sure it is wide enough so you can stand with your feet shoulder width apart.
Step 3
Cut your board following the template. Cut the wood ball in half. A jig saw is the best tool, as using a hand saw can be time consuming.
Step 4
On the top of your board, above where you'll attach the wood ball on the bottom center, mark four equally spaced spots in a square formation, plus one in the middle. Glue the half-ball below into place with wood glue. Let it dry overnight.
Step 5
Drill holes where you marked the top of the board. Place screws where the holes are. Countersink the holes a bit so the screws don't stick up and snag socks or feet. Sand all rough edges on the board.
Tips and Warnings
- If you want a more challenging workout, use a bigger ball on the bottom of the board.
- Use a facemask when you saw the MDF. You do not want to inhale MDF fibers.
