Hot options for a Medifast meal include scrambled eggs, oatmeal or any of the Medifast soups.
Varieties and Preparation
Varieties of Medifast soups include chicken and wild rice, chicken noodle, cream of broccoli, cream of chicken, cream of tomato and Maryland crab soup. Similar options are beef vegetable stew and homestyle chili. The serving size is one packet, which weighs about 30 to 32 g, which you mix with 8 oz. of cold water. Microwave for two and one-half minutes, and let it stand for a minute; stir and microwave for another minute.
Ingredients
Sources of protein in the soups, stew and chili include whey protein concentrate, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, soy protein isolate and textured soy protein. They have fiber from chicory root extract, or inulin, oat fiber or xanthan gum. These Medifast meals have dehydrated ingredients, such as chicken, vegetables and spices, and they have artificial flavors, salt, monosodium glutamate and acesulfame potassium, a nonnutritive sweetener. All of the soups are caffeine-free, and the chili, crab soup and chicken noodle soup are gluten-free.
Nutrition
Like the other Medifast meal options, each serving of Medifast soup, beef vegetable stew or homestyle chili provides 100 to 110 calories. They have about 1 to 1.5 g total fat, are low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and they do not have trans fats. They have about 10 to 15 g carbohydrates, including 4 to 5 g dietary fiber, and 12 to 14 g protein. Medifast soup provides at least 20 percent of the daily value for most essential vitamins and minerals.
