Severe stomach pain 10 minutes after eating is most likely related to a food allergy. Other conditions, such as food intolerances take at least 30 minutes before they cause stomach complications. If you notice that the stomach pain forms after eating certain foods, keep a log of which foods trigger your symptoms and share this information with your doctor. Do not attempt to diagnose your condition solely on your symptoms because various conditions can cause severe stomach pain.

Food Allergy

Eating a food that you're allergic to will cause severe stomach pain within 10 minutes after you eat. The most common foods that cause an allergic reaction include wheat, peanuts, eggs, soy, milk, fish and tree nuts. Many highly allergic foods are ingredients in various foods. For example, if you're allergic to eggs, this food allergen can be found in hard candy, baked goods, bread, crackers and salad dressings. Eggs may be in so many foods that you may not even realize that eggs are triggering your stomach pain and other allergy symptoms.

Stomach Pain

The stomach from a food allergy will develop within the first few minutes of eating the food. Stomach pain from a food allergy is caused by inflammation that occurs in the soft tissue of the digestive tract. After you eat a food that you're allergic to, the immune system creates immunoglobulin E and other chemicals, such as histamine that cause inflammation in your gut. The inflammation will place pressure on your intestines and surrounding areas, such as your abdomen. You may develop pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea and nausea form the inflammation.

Identification

If your doctor suspects that the stomach pain is caused by a food allergy she will recommend allergy testing. Allergy tests use proteins from the suspected food allergens and insert them under your skin to see if the skin becomes inflamed. A sample of your blood may be taken and sent to a lab where common food proteins are added to your blood to determine if immunoglobulin E antibodies are created. If you are diagnosed with a food allergy, you will need to eliminate that food from your diet completely.

Treatment

The only effective treatment for a food allergy that causes stomach pain after 10 minutes of eating is to avoid foods that cause the allergic reaction. For example, if you're allergic to milk you cannot ingest milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, custard or any product that contains whey, dry milk or casein.
