Hemorrhoids are inflamed veins in the anus that may be caused by pressure during bowel movements or pregnancy. Inflamed veins form inside the rectum or underneath the skin surrounding the anus, causing pain, itching and bleeding. Hemorrhoids are common, especially in older people, and there are many available treatments. Bioflavonoids, found mainly in citrus fruits, are an effective all-natural treatment for hemorrhoids because they help heal capillaries. Taken internally, bioflavonoids can help the body heal the inflammation of the capillaries that causes the hemorrhoids.

Step 1

Increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables. All brightly colored fruits and vegetables contain bioflavonoids, so adding more produce to your diet will boost your levels of hemorrhoid-fighting nutrients. Broccoli and green leafy vegetables are especially notable, as are grapes, currents, cherries and apricots.

Step 2

Eat more citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit.

Step 3

Drink water with fresh-squeezed lemon juice throughout the day.

Step 4

Consume foods made with buckweat seed, which is a source of the bioflavonoid rutin. Rutin is also found in the peels of citrus fruits.

Step 5

Take a bioflavonoid supplement.
