Human growth hormone, or HGH, is a natural hormone that is produced by the tiny pituitary gland at the base of the brain. This hormone is vital for normal childhood growth and development and is also important for maintaining organs and tissues in adults. The brain creates the most amount of HGH during the first two hours of deep sleep, and this can be negatively affected if the body is trying to digest and metabolize food.

- Exercise also helps raise HGH levels in the body. However, avoid exercising within two hours after eating, and do not consume sugar sports drinks while exercising, as this will decrease HGH production. HGH supplements are only available by prescription and used to treat symptoms of medical conditions such as cancers of the pituitary gland. Synthetic HGH is not easily absorbed by the body. Natural foods can help create HGH in a safer, gentler manner.
- Do not consume excess protein and fat-rich foods such as dairy products. Excess body fat can decrease HGH production. Reduce your intake of simple or refined carbohydrates that raise blood glucose and insulin levels in the body.
