According to the Mayo Clinic, 40 percent of infertility can be traced back to problems associated with the man. One of the problems that can inhibit reproduction is a low sperm count. A normal sperm count is at least 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen.
Step 1
Take a multivitamin daily. The nutrients found in multivitamins, such as zinc, folic acid and selenium, play a vital role in the production of healthy sperm.
Step 2
Relax. Stress can decrease the amount of hormones that are responsible for producing sperm.
Step 3
Maintain a diet with plenty fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants, which are found in fruits and vegetables, improve the overall health of sperm and allow sperm count to remain at an optimal level.
Step 4
Keep your weight within a normal range. Extra body fat may slow down the production of the hormones responsible for reproduction and therefore lower your sperm count.
Step 5
Refrain from taking baths. Spending more than 30 minutes in water that is 102 degrees F or above can lower your sperm count. Steam rooms and saunas may lower your sperm count as well.
Step 6
Avoid wearing tight pants or underwear. Tight clothing such as pants and underwear can increase the temperature surrounding the scrotum and may effect the number of sperm produced.
