Wulong tea, more commonly referred to as oolong tea, is a traditional Chinese tea. Green tea, which is known to increase metabolism and aid in weight loss, is derived from the Camellia sinensis -- the same plant wulong tea is derived from. Green tea is picked and dried. Wulong tea, on the other hand, is oxidized and then dried, making it a much darker tea than green tea. When utilized strategically, this calorie-free beverage can be an asset to dieters.

Step 1

Sip a cup of warm wulong tea before each meal. The warm tea will fill your stomach, which will provide you with a feeling of fullness. Additionally, the polyphenols in the tea will decrease the amount of dietary fat that your body is able to absorb from your meal by up to 6 percent, according to the book "Prescription for Natural Cures."

Step 2

Drink a cup of hot or iced wulong tea approximately 30 minutes before your workouts. By the time you're ready to work out, the caffeine from the tea will impact your system, providing you with extra energy. Use that energy to push yourself a little bit further than you otherwise would, to burn extra calories.

Step 3

Enjoy wulong tea in place of other, less desirable beverages to cut calories and aid in weight loss. For example, sip iced wulong tea with a dash of skim milk instead of an iced cappuccino, or drink iced wulong tea with lemon in place of a soft drink.
