Vegetarian eating eliminates certain foods, but no particular food is forbidden. Instead, a vegetarian diet allows you to make healthful choices based on your nutritional needs, as well as your health and environmental concerns. A lacto-ovo vegetarian diet has many similarities to a lacto-vegetarian in that you will exclude all meat, poultry, seafood and fish from your diet. You can also continue to eat dairy products. The difference in these two vegetarian diets is that you can use eggs in the lacto-ovo diet.
Vegan
Vegans follow a completely plant-based diet, avoiding all animal products. The foods to avoid include poultry, meat, seafood, fish, dairy and eggs, as well as honey. Vegans must read food labels carefully to ensure that they do not consume any product that contains ingredients derived from animals. A vegan will often avoid using or purchasing any products for daily living that may contain any animal derivative, such as soap and cosmetics. Other items may include material such as wool, silk and leather.
Pescetarian
Another version of vegetarian-type eating is a pescetarian diet. This eating plan avoids consuming beef, pork, chicken and any other land animal. However, a pescetarian can consume fish and seafood. If you choose to follow this diet, you can make a personal choice whether to add in or avoid other animal products such as dairy or eggs.
