How Fast Will a ProForm 490 Treadmill Go?

The 490 C is a lower-end model in the ProForm treadmill line. It is an in-home, motorized treadmill with basic features. As of March 2011, the 490 C sells for $500. Treadmill Doctor rated the ProForm 490 C as adequate for walkers but not joggers or runners. It has a top speed fast enough for runners, but not the motor to sustain that speed.

Speed

The ProForm 490 C has a speed range of 0 to 10 mph, adjustable in 0.1 mph increments. The motor is a 2.0 continuous-duty hp Mach Z. Treadmill-ratings-reviews.com suggests that walkers use a treadmill with at least a 2.0 continuous duty hp motor. For joggers or runners, the website recommends at least a 2.5 or 3.0 hp motor. Although the ProForm 490 C has a top speed of 10 mph, its motor is not powerful enough to support these higher speeds for long periods of time.

Specifications

The ProForm 490 C possesses a power incline ramp with a range of 0 to 10 percent. The incline ramp offers a second way, in addition to speed, to increase the difficulty of your workout. The running area measures 55 inches long and 20 inches wide. The machine measures 70 inches long, 34 inches wide and 60 inches tall, and weighs 183 lb. It boasts a maximum user weight capacity of 300 lb.

Features

The ProForm 490 C provides heart rate sensors on the horizontal handrails. Grab the sensors at any time during your workout to check your heart rate. The console features 10 QuickSpeed control buttons. Press the button that corresponds to your desired speed to instantly change the speed setting. A music port on the console allows you to connect your MP3 player and listen to your music through the treadmill's speaker system. The 490 C treadmill also folds vertically so you can store it in a closet or small room.

Programs

The ProForm 490 C controls the speed and incline settings for you when you select one of the eight iFit workouts. The treadmill divides the workout into one-minute periods and automatically changes the incline and speed at the beginning of each period. The 490 C also offers four calorie-goal workouts. Enter your weight, the number of calories you want to burn and the workout duration. The treadmill adjusts the speed and incline so you will reach your calorie goal by the end of the workout.
