Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are some of the richest sources of antioxidants in the food chain. Plus, they contain phytochemicals, native to plant-based products that may also prevent breast and other forms of cancer. Another benefit of fruits and vegetables is that they are low in calories and can prevent weight gain, which is often associated with cancer development.
Soy Products
Soy products are a nutrient-dense food source that may also prevent breast cancer. Soy contains isoflavones that mimic estrogen and may stimulate receptors in breast cells. These may be advantageous by blocking a woman's natural estrogen production. The American Cancer Society recommends breast cancer survivors consume soy in moderation.
Healthy Fats
Fat in food has always been shown in a negative light, but there are plenty of good fats as well. These are crucial to proper cell functioning. They include omega-3s, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Fish, avocados, nuts, flaxseeds and olive oil are all rich sources of these healthy fats. It is important to avoid hydrogenated and saturated fats, as these can increase the risk of breast cancer.
Alcohol
According to the American Cancer Society, there is a strong correlation between excessive consumption of alcohol and an increased risk of breast cancer. Alcohol increases the production of estrogen, causing a greater degree of cell division in the breasts. The organization warns that a breast cancer patient should not consume more than one drink of alcohol daily
