Joining a fitness club is a major step in improving your overall health and fitness. Everyone has individual fitness goals and exercise requirements. To accommodate these different requirements, fitness clubs offer a variety of gym membership options. With the different options, you can choose the membership that fits your lifestyle, schedule and budget.
Individual
Individual gym memberships are the most common because it matches the needs of a wide range of members. The individual gym memberships can be split into a limited term agreement such as monthly, annual or multiple years. With the ability to pay month-by-month, you can cancel your membership at any time or use it for a specific season, such as the summer or winter. However, some memberships require a 12-month contract.
Class-Only
Fitness clubs commonly offer fitness classes such as cardio kickboxing, circuit training, Zumba, aerobics, Pilates or stationary cycling classes as an added bonus to the general membership. However, some clubs such as Gold’s Gym offer a limited classes-only membership. The memberships restrict your gym use to the available classes and can be purchased by the number of classes. For example, one class costs $10 while six classes costs $47 and 24 classes costs $137.
Multiple Clubs
If you join a fitness club chain, some membership options allow you to use multiple club locations in different cities. For example, the YMCA has an “AWAY” program that allows you to use other participating YMCA clubs around the nation. This makes it easy for you to follow your workout program while traveling for business or taking a vacation. Other clubs such as 24 Hour Fitness have an additional feature to the standard membership that opens your membership to all of the 24 Hour Fitness locations.
Incentives
Gym memberships are often discounted for families or individuals employed with a public service such as the military. The YMCA, for example, offers discounted membership rates for different families ranging from a “Senior Family/Household” to a “Single Parent Family.” Fitness clubs who have a large population of members from public service jobs typically offer discounted rates to soldiers, police officers and rescue workers.
