A chin-up bar, or pull-up bar, is a vital piece of exercise equipment if you want to exercise your back muscles and biceps at home. Setting up one of these bars involves locating a sturdy door frame in your house to hang it from.
Step 1
Locate an appropriate doorway to attach your chin-up bar. The doorway must be sturdy enough to support your total body weight and the bar. Doorways that are 24 to 32 inches wide typically can support chin-up bars. Ideally, affix your chin-up bar on a doorway that faces your television so that you can do your exercise routine while watching your workout video.
Step 2
Provide proper spacing for the brackets. The required gap for the brackets is 8 inches, which you can get by measuring 4 inches from the center of the doorway toward both sides. Center the brackets on the back of the doorway and mark holes using a pencil.
Step 3
Drill holes into the marks for wall anchors. Use a ¼-inch drill bit.
Step 4
Insert screws into the wall anchors to secure the bracket. Hook both ends of your chin-up bar on the bracket. After securing the bracket, test the sturdiness of your bar by hanging or pulling on it.
