What Is the Weight Watchers Momentum Plan?

When it comes to losing weight, the options are unlimited. From diet pills and shakes to just limiting your caloric intake, diets have come a long way over the years, but the same basic concept remains: Burn more calories that you take in and you will lose weight. The Weight Watchers Momentum plan limits your caloric intake.

Identification

The Weight Watchers Momentum plan was introduced in 2008. Although the plan was developed similarly to other Weight Watchers plans, the company did add some new features, including the Filling Foods list. This list consists of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins such as meat and fish, and fat-free dairy items. The Filling Foods list replaced the Core list, which was part of the Weight Watchers Flex plan.

In addition to the Filling Foods list is a new Healthy Guideline. In the past, there were eight guidelines Weight Watchers recommended you follow. With the Momentum plan, a ninth guideline regarding activity was added. The Healthy Guidelines tell participants to get at least 30 minutes of activity daily.

Filling Foods List

With the Flex plan, participants could either track their food or eat solely off of the Core list, which was provided in the starter kit. This list contained an assortment of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats and low-fat dairy items. If the participant opted to follow the Core list, they were allowed to eat anything on it in moderation. They did not have to track the points.

The Filling Food list contains the same items, except the food's point values must be counted. Weight Watchers states that a participant can eat what he wants on the Filling Foods list, as long as it is in moderation. However, the difference between the Core list and the Filling Foods list is that with the Filling Foods list you must track the points.

Expected Results

If you follow the Weight Watchers program, you will lose weight. You can expect to lose between 1 to 2 lbs. a week by following the plan without exercising. By adding exercise, which is part of the Weight Watchers Healthy Guidelines, you can increase your weight loss.

Considerations

Consult your doctor before participating in any weight loss program. She can monitor your progress and make suggestions to increase your weight loss results. In addition, Weight Watchers can become a costly investment, especially if you opt for the online or in-person program. If you are short on cash, search online auction websites for deals on Weight Watchers program guides. These guides will provide all of the information you need to determine your point range and the point value of the food you eat.
