Many people drink coffee as a pick me up in the morning as well as throughout the day. People drink green tea to give them energy, cleanse their system and help them lose weight. Both beverages have a specific use; however, it is up to you to decide which one is best for you.
Staying Alert
People often drink coffee to stay awake during the day; however, many people that drink green tea report that it gives them clarity of mind. There is caffeine in coffee and green tea, and this is what causes that alert or awake feeling. Coffee has more than double the amount caffeine compared to green tea. Regular consumers of caffeine can find it difficult to sleep. However, once your body is used to consuming large amounts of coffee, your body can easily go into sleep mode when it needs to, according to the American Family Physician.
Weight Loss
Green tea and coffee are supposed to produce weight-loss results. However, there is no scientific evidence to show that consuming large amounts of coffee or green tea can help you lose weight. Although caffeine does help you to feel more alert, therefore providing you with more energy, which can help you perform better during exercise. Green tea is supposed to help cleanse your body and reduce toxins, which is sometimes attributed to weight loss.
Heart Disease
Consuming small amounts of coffee or tea can help to reduce the risk of heart disease, according to the American Heart Association. The association reports people that drink up to six cups of green tea on a daily basis are less likely to get heart disease. Similarly, people that drink up to four cups of coffee on a daily basis are 20 percent less likely to get heart disease.
Diabetes
Drinking coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, reports the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." A 2008 study published in the journal found people that drank more than four cups of coffee a day were less likely to get type 2 diabetes. The study also showed that coffee was better in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes than green tea.
Considerations
Although drinking green tea and coffee can produce some health benefits, do not overindulge. Drinking more than six cups on a daily basis of either drink is not advisable.
