A faster metabolism helps with weight-loss goals. Metabolism is a combination of genetics and eating habits. People with poor eating habits may have a lower metabolism. However, eating small meals more frequently and being active will improve metabolism. Good workouts that increase the muscle mass on the body burn more calories, even when you are inactive. With a few techniques, you can speed up your metabolism.
Step 1
Eat breakfast every morning. According to Penn State University, your metabolism slows during sleep. When you wake up and don't eat, the slowed metabolism persists. When you eat breakfast, it "wakes up" your metabolism and speeds it up for the day.
Step 2
Eat small, healthy meals five to six times a day. Starvation slows the metabolism, and the process starts after starving for three hours. Eat several small meals a day between 20 minutes to three hours apart to keep a higher metabolism rate.
Step 3
Consume more protein and spicy foods. According to Penn State University, proteins take 25 percent more energy to digest. This burns more calories. Spicy foods make you sweat, which also means more energy is being exerted to digest these foods.
Step 4
Exercise frequently. Just 30 minutes a day can help burn fat and improve metabolism. It also increases energy for the day. The increase in energy makes a person more active, so more calories are burned.
Step 5
Plan resistance training several times a week to build muscle. Muscle requires more calories and energy to function, so this means more fat burned and weight loss, even while the person is inactive.
