Starting up the new school year can be a great source of stress for many students, especially if they want to lose weight before hitting the books. However, you can shed weight quickly before the new school year begins just by making a few changes to your lifestyle. Changing your lifestyle involves modifying your diet and exercise routines, but don't worry--it won't cramp your back-to-school style too much.
Step 1
Quit drinking soda by throwing it out in your home and ordering tea or water when going out to restaurants. Even though it's easy to bring soda in your lunch, it's not worth all the extra sugar and calories, which can make it difficult to burn more calories than you consume--the vital component of weight loss.
Step 2
Reduce your portion sizes. To initially figure out how to eat less, fill up your plate as you normally would and eat as usual. Stop eating when 20 percent of your food remains on the plate. At this point, you should feel comfortably full or satisfied and can stop eating. The goal is to understand when your body gets enough sustenance, which is at a point that precedes when you feel like you're going to pop. This way, you can pack your lunch for school to include the right amount of food.
Step 3
Eat more fruits and vegetables. Incorporate veggies into every meal, whether they're steamed, stir-fried or just cut up and raw. They fill you up and provide fiber and water without a large amount of calories. Reach for fruit for snacks as well, since produce will keep you feeling full but won't cause you to gain weight or stall out in your weight loss efforts. Try bringing veggies and fruits with you on summer outings and carry over this habit once school starts.
Step 4
Get cardiovascular exercise each morning, kicking off your program as soon as summer starts. As soon as you get up in the morning, get your heart rate up through exercises like jogging, running, bike riding, swimming, aerobics or kickboxing, even if you have plans like going to the beach or just relaxing and enjoying your summer. Exercises like these get the blood pumping and encourage your metabolism to work faster throughout the day. You'll burn more calories this way and notice results by the time school starts.
