Basketball is a means of physical activity and social interaction for individuals of all ages and ability levels. As a result, there are adult leagues across the country, including leagues for women older than the age of 50. To enroll in one of these leagues, you may need to form a basketball team for women of that age group.
Step 1
Look for adult leagues in your area. Many gyms, communities and recreation centers will have leagues for adults. You may be able to find an adult league opened to adults of any age, older-than-50 leagues or strictly women's leagues.
Step 2
Inquire about league rules. Ask about team size, registration fees, the number of games played per season and uniform requirements.
Step 3
Generate interest for your team. Ask your friends who are older than 50 if they would be interested in participating on your team. You may also advertise for players through the local classifieds. With permission, post fliers at work and in your local gym to recruit team members.
Step 4
Have a team meeting. Discuss league and referee fees. Decide upon uniforms and a team name. You may also wish to appoint a team captain.
Step 5
Register your team and for the league you have chosen. At this time, you will need to pay registration fees.
Step 6
Order uniforms. Order T-shirts or jerseys with numbers, last names and your team's name or logo.
Step 7
Establish a practice schedule. Practice prior to games can help to ensure that your team is ready to compete. It can also demonstrate which positions would best be played by which team members. Devise a game strategy that includes specific basketball plays.
Tips and Warnings
- Make sure that new members of your team are committed to showing up for games. If your team does not have enough players, you will be required to forfeit. Forfeiting a game means you will still have to pay referee fees as well as fees for the scorekeepers.
