1. Strawberry Paste for Tooth Shine in Haste
Strawberries are not only delicious to eat, but you can actually whiten teeth with strawberry paste. Make a paste out of smashed strawberries mixed with baking soda. Smear or brush this mixture on your teeth. Let the paste set on the teeth for up to five minutes. The seeds and the acid in the strawberries mixed with the baking soda scrub the scum off your teeth and leave them whiter and brighter. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove any acid and sugar residue from the strawberries to guard against enamel damage.
2. Lemon Juice for Toothy Shine
Use lemon juice to make a paste with salt or baking soda to use as a tooth scrub or tooth-whitening agent. The taste of the lemon juice and salt can be quite tart, so you'll definitely want to brush off the paste mixture and rinse thoroughly to avoid enamel damage to your teeth. Use lemon juice and salt without the baking soda for tooth whitening as well.
3. Whiten and Clean Your Teeth With Apple Cider Vinegar
Raid your kitchen pantry and pull out that bottle of apple cider vinegar. Make your whitening paste by mixing the apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Make sure you rinse thoroughly to remove any acid residue. Of course, it won't be a problem remembering to rinse as the taste of the apple cider vinegar is hard to forget. If you don't have time to make a paste, gargle or rinse your mouth with a mixture of apple cider and vinegar before you do your regular tooth brushing.
4. Don't Trash the Orange Peelings
Orange peelings for whitening teeth--who'd ever have thought of that? If you are peeling oranges for the family, keep those peelings. Use the peelings to rub all over your teeth to remove stains and tartar build-up and to give your teeth a new shine. If you want to make a paste with the orange peelings, try mixing in some ground bay leaves for a different twist on it. Be sure to rinse thoroughly.
5. Open the Fridge for Tooth Whitening
Many fresh fruits and vegetables do a great job in scrubbing the build up off the teeth and adding a little shine. Open the refrigerator and see what you've got inside that will work. Look for the foods that are crunchy and have natural fiber, like cauliflower, celery, fresh pears, apples and carrots. All of these work well in removing food debris and stain-causing bacteria. They will leave a residue in your mouth of acid and sugar, so rinse with clear water thoroughly after your veggie whitening treatment.
