How to Use Chanca Piedra for Liver Health

The liver is a the largest internal organ and functions to filter the blood, cleansing it of environmental toxins, wastes, chemical and pathogens. It also plays a key role in glucose storage, cholesterol balance, digestive enzyme production and energy metabolism. Chanca piedra, which is also known as Phyllanthus niruri, is a herbal plant that originates in the Amazon rainforest. This herb is thought to have several medicinal benefits including detoxifying the liver, removing harmful particles and decreasing inflammation in the body. This health supplement is used to promote liver health. Its benefits have not been conclusively tested so do not take chanca piedra without the supervision of your doctor.

Step 1

Discuss your liver health concerns with your doctor and dietitian. Your doctor can determine if any symptoms you are experiencing are due to an underlying liver condition. Also discuss changes in your diet and taking herbal supplements such as chanca piedra that may help maintain liver health.

Step 2

Purchase chanca piedra from a health food store. Carefully read the ingredients to ensure that this herbal supplement does not contain anything you may be allergic or sensitive to. Also read the directions for the dosing information.

Step 3

Drink chanca piedra tea. Brew the herbal by bringing 3 to 4 cups of filtered water to a boil. Then add 1 tbsp. of dried Chanca Piedra. Let it steep for 15 minutes, drain and drink throughout the day. Repeat as often as recommended on the product label.
