The process of losing belly fat for women can be complicated, especially since hormonal fluctuations, the aging process and even heredity can be to blame for the accumulation of fat on the stomach. However, you can shed pounds from your midsection as a woman quickly by making a few changes to how you eat and exercise. These lifestyle changes are gradual and are intended to help you develop new habits, not merely to crash diet only to gain all the weight back.
Step 1
Draw up a plan for a healthier diet that is high in complex carbohydrates like those found in vegetables and fruits. Cut out simple carbohydrates from foods like pasta and white bread and steer clear of saturated fats. You should also eat lean sources of protein like chicken or fish. Unhealthy snacks like chips, soda, cookies, cakes and alcohol should also be excluded from your diet since they are high in calories yet offer no nutritional value. Eating too many empty calories make it harder to lose weight, especially if your body is holding onto more fat than it used to.
Step 2
Take part in a cardiovascular activity every day like running, swimming or biking that gets your heart rate up and burns calories. One good thing about burning so many calories is that as you start to lose weight, you'll likely notice the fruits of your labor on your belly first as it begins to shrink.
Step 3
Do pelvic lifts to tone and tighten your lower belly. To perform this exercise, lie on your back and lift your pelvis off the floor. You should feel the effort of this exercise in your lower abdominal muscles. Be careful not to strain your lower back. Instead, it should be pressed against the floor as you perform this exercise for five repetitions.
Step 4
Reduce the look of belly fat by strengthening your inner abdominal muscles. You can do this by pulling your bellybutton toward your back. When doing this exercise correctly, your belly will look hollowed out. Hold this position for a count to 10, then relax by taking a deep breath. Repeat 10 times. As you build strength, your belly should look slimmer and you'll stand taller. This is a way to reduce the look of your belly fat, even if you haven't shed pounds.
