Your face can have an impact on people's first impression of you. Carrying excess fat in your face can make you self-conscious when you meet new people. Although you cannot spot-reduce fat from one area of your body, you can lose fat in your face by decreasing your overall body fat percentage. Follow a healthy diet, engage in cardiovascular activity and perform facial exercises to lose fat in your face.

Step 1

Follow a balanced diet to promote fat loss. Eat whole foods in their natural form, such as low-fat dairy, healthy fats such as avocado and olive oil, whole grains, lean meats, fish, skinless poultry, fruits and vegetables. Consuming unprocessed foods helps keep you feeling fuller longer with fewer calories.

Step 2

Participate in 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise to burn off fat stores. Ride your bike outdoors, jog or walk on the treadmill, glide on the elliptical machine or join a group aerobics class to add variety.

Step 3

Perform facial yoga exercises two times per week to help tighten and tone the face, suggests Gaiam Life.

Step 4

Do lion face exercises. Stand with feet shoulder width apart with arms at your sides. Take a deep breath and tighten every muscle in your body, including your legs, fists and abs. Exhale slowly while relaxing the muscles. Widen your eyes and stick out your tongue as far as you can while opening the hands. Repeat the exercise three times. Hold the pose for 30 to 60 seconds on the last set.

Tips and Warnings

  • Increase your water intake to help eliminate bloating that can make the face appear puffy. Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water per day to avoid water retention caused by dehydration.
