If you're always looking for an easy way to lose weight and get healthy, yet always find yourself eating food that tastes like cardboard and wishing you could have one sliver of chocolate, you need the 1500 calorie diet. It's simple to follow long-term, so you can keep it up for life, unlike a crash diet which can be hard to stay consistent with for more than a couple weeks. If you choose a 1500 calorie diet, you'll be able to lose weight and keep it off.

Basics

Split up the 1500 calories per day in a way that works for you. It's recommended that you eat three meals and one snack per day; but, if you're the type of person who likes to eat three larger meals, then there's no reason that you can't do it on this diet. If you're eating three meals and one snack per day you can split them up, so you're eating three meals of 400 calories and one snack of 300 calories or however you see fit. One day you might eat a larger lunch of 500 calories and eat a smaller snack of 200 calories. Just make sure that you're consuming roughly 1500 calories each day.

Foods

You can eat whatever food you would like to on this diet as long as you only eat 1500 calories each day. If you want to feel full all day, you should choose healthier foods, such as fruits, vegetables, proteins and whole grains. Aim to eat nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day, and you won't have any issues feeling hungry. Try eating a salad every night at the beginning of dinner and you'll fill up on low calorie healthy foods and might even be able to have a little dessert.

Eating Out

When you're trying to eat healthy, it's best to cook most of your meals at home. When you eat out, try to pick a restaurant that displays the nutritional information, so you know how many calories you're consuming. You can cut calories by ordering a salad with a vinaigrette dressing and an appetizer instead of an entrée. If you want to be able to eat something less healthy when you eat out, cut back on your calories for lunch and cut your snack for the day.

Alcohol

Remember that drinks have calories too and have to be accounted for in this diet. Cut back on your alcohol intake to cut a lot of calories. If you're going out for happy hour, have a glass of wine and then switch to sparkling water.

Warnings

If you normally eat a lot more than 1500 calories a day, then you'll want to consult your primary care physician before drastically cutting your calories. If you have any health conditions, like diabetes, you should always consult your doctor before starting a new diet.
