Yoga has many benefits for kids. It can help teach them focus, attention, self-confidence, and self-discipline. According to one yoga teacher, it helps them develop their creativity, trust their inner selves and ease their negative feelings like fear and sadness. It's also great exercise for their physical bodies.

Yoga Studios

With yoga exploding in popularity, yoga centers and yoga studios have popped up all across the country. Yoga studios typically use certified yoga instructors, and many offer classes designed specifically for kids. Not only do they teach them breathing and poses, they also offer kids a place to go on a regular basis to practice yoga. A basic web search can help you find websites and resources that will help you find a local yoga studio that offers yoga for kids.

Schools

Some schools offer yoga for children. Montessori schools are an example. These are non-traditional schools that allow children to work at their own speed and choose many of their own activities during the school day. Some public and private elementary and secondary schools are offering yoga breaks with certified instructors and are including yoga as part of physical education class.

At Home

There are many resources for parents who wish to teach yoga and practice yoga with their children at home. There are instructional websites, videos and books that can give parents the tools to teach basic yoga poses that kids can handle. One such book is called "Storytime Yoga: Teaching Yoga to Children Through Story." Websites like Yoga Teacher Training, for example, can offer other resources such as online courses and classes that offer tips on teaching yoga to kids.

Camps

Day camps and summer camps are quite popular for kids of all ages. As yoga, and especially yoga for kids, becomes increasingly popular, camps across the country are starting to include yoga as part of the curriculum. Some yoga centers and studios even offer camps that focus specifically on yoga. An Internet search using any popular search engine can yield resources on where to find yoga camps.
