When you're on the go, remembering to take your medicine and multivitamins can easily fall by the wayside. While skipping a daily multivitamin might not cause problems in the long run, a day of missed medication could be dangerous. Even worse might be the days when you can't remember whether you remembered to take your medicine already. Developing a plan to keep you on track can ensure that you'll never miss a day of medication or vitamins again.
Step 1
Schedule a specific time to take your medicine and vitamins every day. If you need to take some of your medication with food, schedule your daily medicine session near a mealtime. For medicines and supplements that can interact, you might need to schedule more than one time to take different pills.
Step 2
Create a calendar specifically for your medication schedule. Write down each pill you need to take and the time you will take them. Post your calendar on a wall where it will be easily visible and accessible.
Step 3
Put your pills in a weekly pill dispenser at the start of each week, and keep the dispenser on you or in an easily accessible location. If there are children who live with you or visit your home, keep your medication in a place that they cannot reach.
Step 4
Tape reminder notes in places you usually look just before your scheduled pill-taking time. If you have medication you need to take at lunch, place a note on the refrigerator or microwave door or in the drawer where you keep the forks and spoons. For morning medication, place a note on the bathroom mirror or with some item you usually put on in the morning, such as your glasses.
Step 5
After you have taken a pill, cross through its name on you calendar. This helps you remember which medications or supplements you have already taken and which you need to take later in the day.
Step 6
Develop a support system. Ask your friends or family members to remind you to take your medication. If you have friends who are also on medication, remind each other so that one of you takes up the slack if the other forgets.
Step 7
Set up a reminder service that sends you a daily email or telephone call reminding you to take your medication and supplements.
Step 8
Set the alarm on your watch, cell phone or computer for when it is time to take your pills.
