Modern lacrosse is highly regulated, including having strict guidelines for equipment such as the lacrosse stick. A lacrosse stick has a mesh netting at its top, or head. This netting is tightly secured with a small pocket in the middle to catch lacrosse balls. To lace your lacrosse heads, you must follow exact guidelines.
Step 1
Fit your net to the lacrosse head by stretching all sides, aligning the first and third sidewall holes to the net's tie strings. Fold excess netting over the lacrosse head.
Step 2
Tie a knot in the topmost tie string on your net. Tighten the knot to ensure that it will not come loose during play.
Step 3
Feed your string through the topmost sidewall hole until the knot catches and prevents the string from going any further.
Step 4
Feed the other end of your top string through the sidewall hole nearest your knot. Wrap the string around to form a loop, and feed it back through the hole in the opposite direction you came. Pull to tighten your loop, and make sure there are no gaps.
Step 5
Push the top string through the next sidewall hole in line. Coming up through the center of the pocket, create a loop like the one before, and bring the string through the third diamond at your topmost row. Bring the end of the string through your loop to form a knot, and tighten.
Step 6
Lace every other diamond, looping and tying off the string as you go until you are finished with the top row.
Step 7
Tie an overhand knot into the next tie string, and feed it through the sidewall hole next to the top. Pull the other end of your string through the hole next to the one that you just fed, looping it onto the nearest mesh diamond. Pull to tighten.
Step 8
Tie the remaining strings using the same method, tying loops to the sidewalls. Stop looping at the last hole on the bottom of the lacrosse head.
Step 9
Feed the end of the string through the last sidewall hole and loop through the last mesh diamond on both sides, securing your mesh to the sidewall using an overhand knot.
Tips and Warnings
- Nets can be soaked in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes to make them more flexible. They are generally larger than the head of your lacrosse stick and can be trimmed later to remove excess string. Secure your shooting strings and create your pocket based on your playing position. Baseballs or softballs will create a deeper pocket while your fist or a golf ball will create a shallower pocket.
