The intense jumping, running and sudden changes in direction during a soccer game can lead to heel pain in soccer players. One type of heel pain that is especially common in youth soccer players is known as Sever's disease. Sever's disease occurs as the result of inflammation of the heel bone's growth plate. Pain occurs due to tightness in the tendons surrounding the heel bone. Pain can also occur as the result of tendinitis -- which results in inflammation of the Achilles tendon. There are measures soccer players can take to deal with their heel pain.
Step 1
Ice your heel regularly -- at least three times a day for 10-minute intervals.
Step 2
Rest your heels. Reduce your playing time or stop playing soccer for awhile to help manage your pain. Elevate your heel when possible.
Step 3
Use a compression bandage. A compression bandage is a lightweight bandage used to reduce swelling.
Step 4
Wear shoes. The use of stable shoes even around the house can help reduce strain and pain in your heel.
Step 5
Stretch your calf muscles every day. Stretches can help to reduce strain on your Achilles tendon as well as the bones of your heel.
Step 6
Insert arch supports or heel pads in your shoes. They can help to reduce pain and shock in your heels as you run and jump. They also help to stabilize your foot.
Step 7
Take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. They can help reduce pain and inflammation in your heel.
Step 8
Visit a podiatrist. If conservative measures fail, a doctor can help determine the precise cause of your heel pain as well as a proper treatment plan.

- The goal of treating heel pain is to get you back to soccer without pain. If you experience persistent heel pain, try modifying your activity levels. If you are in the off-season, consider cross-training. Using low impact exercises -- swimming, elliptical machine, rowing machine and cycling -- can help keep you in shape as your heel rests.
