A set of matching bearings are housed within the BMX's headset. The ball bearings allow the front fork to rotate during turns and maneuvers. Adjust the height of the handlebars if your hands feel sore after executing aerial tricks on your BMX. Unlike certain types of recreational bikes, the handlebars of the BMX do not feature an adjustable rise. To raise the height of the handlebars, professional BMX rider Brian Kachinsky recommends placing a spacer between the dust cover of the headset and the handlebar stem.
Step 1
Insert an appropriately sized hex key into the bolts of the handlebar stem. Rotate the handle counterclockwise to loosen the bolts. Wrap your hands around the grips of the handlebars.
Step 2
Pull up gently to lift the handlebars and stem off the front fork. Align your headset spacers around the circular tube of the fork. Slide the spacers down to rest on top of the headset's dust cover.
Step 3
Lower the handlebar stem onto the fork. Insert the hex key into the stem bolts. Rotate the handle clockwise to tighten the bolts and complete the handlebar adjustment process.
