The American Council on Exercise, or ACE, Group Fitness Instructor Certification encompasses all types of group exercise classes including certification as an aerobics instructor. This certification confirms you have attained the necessary knowledge to promote positive exercise and health changes, increase motivation, inspire the participants in healthy living and lead effective, safe classes.
Eligibility
Sitting for the ACE Group Fitness Instructor exam requires you be at least 18 years old. A current adult CPR and AED -- automated external defibrillator -- certification are necessary. With only two necessary eligibility requirements, this certification is available to a large number of people and is not dependent upon your level of education.
Accreditation
All ACE certification programs were granted accreditation in 2003 through the National Commissions for Certifying Agencies. NCCA is accepted by The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association as a qualifying accreditation agency. In 2006, IHRSA recommended that all member clubs hire personal trainers certified through an accredited agency that received their accreditation from a third-party, experienced, independent and nationally recognized agency such as NCCA.
Benefits
ACE Group Fitness Instructors qualify for exclusive discounts on apparel, equipment, music, software and liability insurance. Along with discounts comes the knowledge that certification gives you credibility with your employer and exercise class participants.
Expectations
Effectively executing a group exercise class, teaching technique, leadership, developing safe classes and implementing them are all objectives of the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification. In addition, instructors are tested in the areas of kinesiology, anatomy, exercise physiology, class design, cuing and injury prevention.
Get Started
Buy your study materials online from the ACE website. Study the material and when you feel prepared, you can sign up to take the exam. Two exam methods are available; online or using pen and paper. After you receive certification, maintain it through continuing education classes.
