How to Read the Heart Rate Display on Gold's Gym Trainer 480

The Gold's Gym Trainer 480 is a budget-friendly, in-home treadmill that sells for less than $400. It offers a speed range of 0 to 10 mph and an incline grade range of 0 to 10 percent. The 480 treadmill has eight built-in workout programs that are divided into 30 one-minute periods. The treadmill adjusts the speed and incline automatically at the start of each segment. The Gold's Gym Trainer 480 has pulse sensors on the handrails so you can check your heart rate.

Step 1

Step on the foot rails and grab the metal pulse sensors on the handrails.

Step 2

Hold the sensors for at least 15 seconds for an accurate reading.

Step 3

Watch the lower right display screen. It typically shows the speed of the walking belt and the approximate number of calories you have burned, but it displays your heart rate, in beats per minute, when you use the pulse sensors.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wash your hands before using the Gold's Gym Trainer 480. The treadmill can read your pulse better if your hands are clean. Don't move your hands while checking your heart rate.
  • Consult your physician before starting any exercise program.
