Human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, is a hormone commonly produced during pregnancy and is used in treating infertility. HCG helps to stimulate metabolism. Dr. A.T.W. Simeon adopted a new use for HCG for those looking to lose weight. The HCG diet promotes a 500-calorie-per day routine, along with HCG hormone supplements or injections. Very low calorie diets can be dangerous when combined with strenuous physical exercise.
Step 1
Talk to your doctor. The doctor providing you with the HCG supplements or injections can provide you with recommendations on exercise. Your doctor will explain to you the exercises you may perform and the exercises you absolutely should avoid.
Step 2
Avoid strenuous exercise. Running, participating in sports and heavy weightlifting should all be avoided.
Step 3
Take regular walks. Walk for 30 minutes to one hour per day. Keep a slow and steady pace. Breaking a light sweat during walking is acceptable.
Step 4
Sign up for a yoga class. Yoga focuses on flexibility and a mind-body connection. Yoga can help promote internal health and serve as a low-impact exercise.
Step 5
Take a swim. Slowly swim a couple laps at the pool without overexerting yourself. Water aerobics and water walking are also acceptable.
Tips and Warnings
- Drink plenty of fluids while exercising, and listen to your body. If you feel dizzy and extremely tired, discontinue exercising and talk to your doctor.
- The Food and Drug Administration has not approved the use of HCG as a safe or effective means of weight loss. The FDA indicates that there is not enough evidence to link the use of HCG to weight loss.
